Team Sports Impact on Children and Teens

When we install athletic equipment in schools and community recreation centers we know we’re contributing a lot more to the community than a place to play, cheer, and dream. Team sports offer important opportunities for critical youth development beginning in elementary school and continuing all the way through the college years.

Research shows that when we allow kids to participate in team sports, they experience improved physical health, accelerated academic achievement, higher self-esteem, and fewer behavioral problems.

Beyond this, when children engage in team sports guided by a supportive and fair coach, they experience a positive relationship with an adult. Through this relationship children learn to navigate towards appropriate social behavior. Some research indicates that experience with team sports and a positive adult role model can increase a child’s level of resiliency, or the ability to bounce back from disappointment and failure.

Sports are developmentally important for all children but there are some particularly interesting impacts for girls who participate in team sports. According to one study, girls who play sports are 73% more likely to earn a college degree than those who do not play sports. Girls are also more likely to develop a stronger sense of self worth, are more likely to develop leadership qualities, and are less likely to exhibit anti-social or depressive behavior if they participate in sports as children.

We are proud of our continued contribution to school and recreation center communities across the Midwest. Give us a call if you would like to discuss any aspect of sports equipment installation or repair. Our knowledgeable team will answer any questions you have.
